The Environmental Studies Association of Canada (ESAC) is pleased to announce a Call for Papers for the 2022 Annual Online Conference which will take place May 18-20 2022. The deadline for submission is January 10, 2022, at 4 pm PST. We would be grateful if you would distribute this Call for Papers in your networks.

The Annual ESAC conference, as a part of the 2022 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, is a networking opportunity for a diverse range of researchers to share environmental ideas and engage in thought-provoking discussions about prominent environmental issues in Canada, and globally.

Reflecting the 2022 Congress theme “Transitions”, ESAC invites submissions from a diverse range of topics (the list of topics is attached).

Venue: Online – you can join the 2022 Conference without any concern for air travel carbon footprint and with reduced registration rates!

U-Pass exemption application for Winter 2021 Term 2 (January- April 2022)

Hi everyone,

I hope this message finds you well and you are keeping healthy and safe.

The online exemption application for the 2021 Winter Term 2 (January to April 2022) is now available. The attached email was sent to the students today. Please note, for this term as indicated on the attached email, there are two exemption application forms (regular U-Pass BC exemptions through SSC and COVID-19 U-Pass BC exemptions through AMS) and the students must apply through the correct application form if meeting the specific exemption criteria. The exemption deadlines for this term will be January 28, 2022 (regular U-Pass exemptions through SSC) and February 4, 2022 (COVID-19 U-Pass BC exemptions through AMS).

For the students who will be applying for exemption under “Regular U-Pass BC exemptions” (i.e. Co-Op or Practicum or Graduate students completing their thesis course while living outside of Metro Vancouver area) and if you know who the students are, please provide me a list of your students as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for the information.

Call for Applications—Sustainability Scholars paid summer internships

The UBC Sustainability Initiative (USI) is again offering UBC graduate students the opportunity to work in funded sustainability internship projects. Projects begin May 3, 2022. Current UBC graduate students from all academic disciplines and all UBC campuses are encouraged to apply.

Further information on the available internship projects can be found on the Sustainability Scholars Program web page. Applications close at midnight Sunday January 30, 2022.

I am also holding information sessions on January 12 and 20. Details about the application deadline and the information sessions are below.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS – UBC SUSTAINABILITY SCHOLARS (PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS) 

The UBC Sustainability Initiative (USI) is pleased to offer UBC graduate students the opportunity to work on funded sustainability internship projects.

We are currently accepting applications for over 80 UBC Sustainability Scholars (including Greenest City Scholars) internships that will commence May 2, 2022. Current UBC graduate students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to confirm the eligibility requirements and apply.

Successful candidates will work under the mentorship of a partner organization, and are immersed in real world learning where they can apply their research skills and contribute to advancing organizational sustainability goals. Each Scholar receives $25 per hour to complete 250 hours of work.

If this describes you, please attend the Sustainability Scholars Program information session on January 12 at 12:00 pm or January 20 at 5:00 pm. At the January 20 session representatives from several of our partner organizations will speak about the kinds of opportunities Scholars can have while working in the program. We will also have former scholars and mentors there to answer your questions about what you can expect as a Scholar and what kinds of opportunities the program offers in terms of skills and job prospects.
