Research Associate- Economist

The Institute for Sustainable Food Systems (ISFS) is seeking applications for a one-year Research Associate position focused on food system economics. The research associate will collaborate with other ISFS research associates to develop research methodology and analyze data on the economic impacts of local/regional food systems, such as agricultural land protection, household food consumption, farm income etc. Please see the attached form position details and how to apply.

Liu Institute Network for Africa- Call for Members 

Africa is tackling various global issues, including peace and security, human rights, health, sustainable development, climate change, big data and many more. Stakeholders within and outside Africa continue to discuss and shape this transformation through diverse platforms. 

Liu Institute Network for Africa (LINA) has been formed to be a diasporic, scholarly platform, operating from UBC that contributes to issues from a multidisciplinary perspective. We aim to create an active forum for research on global issues as applicable to Africa and the rest of the world. Relevant activities will include facilitated dialogues (conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.) and writing (working papers, periodic volumes, etc.). We hope this initiative will contribute to shaping Africa’s transformation through high-impact academic and community research that has policy significance. 

Current members are from academic units across UBC, but there is room for more. Membership is open to both African and non-African graduate students, post-graduate and post-doctoral fellows, and faculty members with research interests that align with our aim.

The Institute for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology is looking for graduate students to join our team of SoTL Specialists. SoTL Specialists are Graduate Research Assistants who work closely with faculty members from all disciplines on teaching and learning research and evaluation projects.

The SMaRT program is a joint-initiative between Let’s Talk Science and UBC Community Learning Initiative (CLI). Our aim is to enrich the scientific knowledge of Grade 5-7 elementary school students in East Vancouver schools by taking the lead on facilitating fun and engaging science experiments that complement their grade-specific science curriculums

This year we will be offering the program to 18 classrooms – as such, we have space for 18 pod leaders. Each pod visits the same classroom 4 TIMES throughout Jan-Apr 2019 and consists of one pod leader (grad student/post doc) + 3-5 pod members (undergrads).

We are currently looking to recruit graduate students or post-docsas pod leaders.

What will you do as a pod leader?
Term 1: Attend 1 orientation/training session where you will meet your pod members (3-5 undergraduate students).

Term 2: Schedule class visits with the teacher. Support and offer guidance to your pod in planning & leading classroom visits with the help of a manual that outlines the experiments that your pod members will facilitate. Oversee the delivery of four 1.5-hour activities to a Grade 5-7 class by your pod members.

Location: UBC campus – specific location to be determined

Please note that the classroom visit time is a regular time slot and could be Mon-Fri between 9-10:30am, 10:30am-12pm, or 1-2:30pm. Your visit time will be on the same day of the week and at the same time of the day for each of the 4 sessions. These time slots are the actual time you will spend in class, they do NOT include travel to and from the school (budget for an hour max), 10-15 mins preparation before your visit, or clean-up after your visit.
