We are writing to you today on behalf of the Nexus Interdisciplinary Conference, hosted by the Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies Program and Graduate Student Society, with the hope that you will share this conference information with students in your department.

To engage in public scholarship, researchers need to lean into complex problems, creatively work across disciplines, and act out in networks and channels beyond the university to make changes.

But, how do you do this?

Join us on March 12th and 13th, 2020 to further this important conversation.

The Nexus Interdisciplinary Conference, Scholarship [In] Action, invites graduate students and faculty from across campus to come together to enhance UBC’s appetite and capacity for public scholarship.

March 12th is focused on skill-building workshops for students across campus to integrate active and creative strategies into their scholarship. March 13th offers diverse activities and presentations that challenge the structures that inhibit our ability to engage in outward facing and user-driven work. In place of traditional academic-style presentations, we elevate interdisciplinary and imaginative knowledge-sharing formats. Join us for TED Talk style storytelling, small group activities facilitated by UBC Public Scholars, and failing forward sessions that embrace risk-taking and humour in problem solving.

Lunch and coffee will be provided on both dates, and a post-conference social will be held on March 13th at the Koerner’s Pub, with one free drink offered to registered attendees.
