Advertising research positions – Nature Careers / EurAxess

Standard

I’m very pleased to let you know that the G+PS office has launched a pilot service for the advertisement of faculty, graduate student, and postdoc positions through our websites (for graduate students and postdocs), and, if relevant, external career portals – initially including Nature’s digital job board Nature Careers and the European Commission’s EurAxess database (for all positions).

Effective immediately, all faculty and staff are able to post any open positions in our Faculty and Staff portal at https://faculty-staff.grad.ubc.ca/recruitment/job-ads. Student positions will be advertised on grad.ubc.ca in the project directory and embedded into the G+PS researcher profiles. Postdoc positions will be advertised in the Postdoc Career Opportunities website.

If opted for in the posting, all faculty, student and postdoc posts will also be shared with external portals via system-to-system integration, requiring no additional work. In the first phase, we have partnered with the Provost’s office to purchase an annual subscription with Nature Careers, allowing us to transfer an unlimited number of ads there until August 31, 2021. A second integration to the European database EurAxess will be activated on September 15. Other portals might be considered during the course of the project.

Note that this service is free of charge to users, and, in the case of Nature Careers, a considerable cost-savings given the usual US$699 charge for individual ads. Please note that all positions must be posted through the G+PS F+S portal to enable this integration. This service is complementary to the UBC HR career website, and requires adherence to policy HR11 and all HR guidelines in the case of faculty positions.

In the case of graduate student and postdoc recruitment, the trial will help us establish whether faculty members see this as an effective recruitment avenue and whether we can reach high quality applicants through these channels. We will update you as we gain information on these questions.

Faculties and departments can integrate active student/postdoc positions into their websites automatically as part of our data integration options.

Please contact Jens Locher (jens.locher@ubc.ca), G+PS Assistant Dean for Strategic Technologies and Business Initiatives, for further information on this initiative. Graduate programs and faculty members will be emailed directly in the next few days.

Regards,

Susan
