Anti-Racism and Solidarity in Teaching Practice Workshop (now open to all LFS Graduate Students)

Standard

Dear LFS Graduate Students,

As you might be aware we are undoubtedly living in trying times: in addition to the unprecedented challenges of Covid-19, it is unfortunate that some members of our societies have been recently experiencing heightened racism and oppression resulting in what some researchers are calling the “double pandemic”. However, racism against various ethnic or minority groups is not new: it is a historical, long-standing social problem that permeates and threatens the fabric of our societies. To date, a lot still remains to be done to address this challenge.

As an LFS TA or graduate student, have you ever wondered how racism relates to teaching and learning? Are you well-equipped to appropriately respond to such issues? To further reflect and learn more, please join us at the next session on:

Anti-Racism and Solidarity in Teaching Practice Workshop (for LFS TAs)
Now open to all LFS Graduate Students

Mon, Apr 26 (10 AM – 12 PM PDT)

via Zoom

Register here: http://bit.ly/LFSTA_AntiRacism

Facilitator: Colin Dring, ISLFS
Learning Objectives:

  • Guided reflection on participants’ own roles and fears as educators, and develop an introductory understanding of concepts such as anti-racism, privilege, allyship, and solidarity especially in the context of online teaching and learning;
  • Identification and intensive unpacking of harmful phrases that can lead to further marginalization of racialized or excluded students;
  • Introduction of teaching strategies, practical tools, and relevant resources for anti-racist teaching practice.

Best regards,

LFS TA Coordinators (Tebby and Lennie)
