Canadian Standards Association standards

Standard

Woodward Library currently subscribes to the complete collection of Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards from IHS, including active and withdrawn standards:

https://resources.library.ubc.ca/page.php?details=csa-standards&id=953

Our subscription expires February 19th. Usually databases increase in price by 3%-10% per year. Our 2018 invoice includes a 464% price increase to keep only 8% (approximately 500) of the standards collection that we currently have. In order to maintain access to the entire package of active and withdrawn standards, the cost increase is 557%.

UBC librarians are investigating alternative ways to purchase CSA standards. It’s likely that we will lose access to many of the standards we have now, so we are prioritizing the most highly used and requested standards. Our current CSA subscription includes some adopted ISO standards. One alternative we are looking into is purchasing the ISO version of selected standards rather than the CSA version.

UBC Library also subscribes to other standards online, including ASTM, IEEE, and we purchase some standards in print on request. Details on our full standards collection are available here: http://guides.library.ubc.ca/standards

If you use CSA or ISO standards in your teaching or research, could you please let us know which standards are most important to you? Please send your feedback to Ursula Ellis, ursula.ellis@ubc.ca, by Friday, February 16th. Thank you.
