Dr. Michael Zulyniak is currently an Assistant Professor of Obesity at the School of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Leeds. His research harnesses advanced epidemiological methods to untangle the dietary, environmental, metabolic, and genomic networks that underpin disease disparity in minority ethnic groups in order to inform personalised and improved prevention and treatment strategies. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences from the University of Guelph.

The Indigenous Research Partnership at the Faculty of Land and Food System invites applications for the second semester of Summer 2023 Internship Positions at xʷc̓ ic̓ əsəm: Indigenous Health Research and Education Garden.

The xʷc̓ ic̓ əsəm Garden is located on the unceded lands and waterways of the xʷməθkʷəy̓ əm (Musqueam) people at the UBC Farm. The program is led by Indigenous Elders, knowledge keepers, community members, students, and Indigenous Faculty. The Garden aims to serve educational and research needs related to Indigenous knowledges and its intersections with other ways of knowing. The xʷc̓ ic̓ əsəm Garden focuses on Indigenous food sovereignty, food security, land-based health and wellness, and traditional plant knowledge, while increasing participants’ access to traditional and non-traditional plants/food knowledge and practices. The Garden hosts research and education programs supporting UBC teaching and learning initiatives; it collaborates with Indigenous communities and organizations, schools, and other communities.
