Competition Announcement: DAAD Study Scholarships and Research Grants

DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) Study Scholarships and Research Grants are available for highly qualified graduate students, PhD candidates, and post-doctoral researchers in all disciplines to study and carry out research at universities or research institutes in Germany. These scholarship provide funds for a period of study and/or research in Germany.

UBC is a DAAD Partner University and may nominate a total of two priority candidates for the Study Scholarship and/or Long-Term Research Grant programs. For applicants who would like to be considered as UBC’s priority candidates, please follow the application procedures on this webpage: https://www.grad.ubc.ca/awards/daad-deutscher-akademischer-austausch-dienst-scholarships-research-grants. Applicants are required to submit their application via the DAAD Online Portal. Applicants are also required to submit a copy of their application plus the signed reference form to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies by 4:00pm on Friday, 12 October 2018. The contact at the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies for this competition is Angela Rizzo (angela.rizzo@ubc.ca).

Waitlist registration is now open for the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) October 21, 27, 28 2018.  The ISW is a 3-day intensive workshop that develops participant’s teaching skills and confidence.  It is appropriate for first time teachers or those with years of experience.  Join the thousands of students who have taken this workshop. The ISW is an internationally recognized program and students receive transcript notation for their participation. In addition, graduate students in STEM departments are eligible to become CIRTL associates upon completion of the workshop.

IMPORTANT: The workshop runs from 8:15am-5:00pm. Please note you must attend all three days for the complete duration of the workshop, i.e. the entire 24-hour workshop.

A former student, Wrenna Robertson would like to share her experience working in policy at Natural Resources Canada.  Wrenna will give a presentation on Tuesday September 25, 2018 at 2 PM in room FNH 220.

 The Policy Analyst Recruitment and Development Program (PARDP) is Natural Resources Canada’s signature accelerated development program for Master’s and Ph.D. graduates. Program participants learn how to effectively manage their careers and develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become leaders in policy.

Program requirements

Education

Graduation with a Master’s Degree or PhD from a recognized post-secondary institution that will be completed no later than December 31, 2019, with a combination of three half undergraduate or graduate courses in economics, sociology or statistics.

All positions are in the National Capital Region, a vibrant cosmopolitan area with endless activities, events, festivals and miles of nature to explore. We offer compensation for relocation of up to $5,000.
