Reminder to Award Holders: Please Register for 2021S

Standard

As we are getting ready to assign and renew awards for the 2021 Summer session, we would like to ask you to remind your students (award holders) their responsibilities to ensure timely payment of their award funding in May:

  • Registration: Please register for courses in the 2021S session. Award holders (including tuition award recipients) are required to maintain registration for the duration of their award funding period.  Failure to register for 2021S courses will result in award payment being delayed.
  • Award holder’s guide: Please remind your students that changes to their registration (such as program completion and leave of absence) will affect their award payment. For further information, please visit: https://www.grad.ubc.ca/scholarships-awards-funding/information-award-recipients/award-holders-guide.

Please note that for continuing awards, the summer term award payments are typically assigned to student accounts in mid-April.

For awards-related questions, please contact graduate.awards@ubc.ca. Please direct your questions about course registration to graduate.sas@ubc.ca.

Upcoming Deadlines for Doctoral Examination

Standard

The deadline for submission of Nominations for External Examiner for PhD candidates wanting to complete on the timeline for August 31 program completion is this Friday, April 9. This is a somewhat flexible deadline, but students wishing to complete their PhD by the end of the summer should be ready to start the examination process. The External Examiner nominations should come in by the end of next week to reduce the likelihood of a delay in securing an External Examiner.

As a reminder, the other dates candidates need to meet are as follows:

  • FRIDAY, 11 JUNE 2021 – Doctoral dissertation (and supporting documentation) submitted to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies for external examination
  • FRIDAY, 6 AUGUST 2021 – Last Day for Final Doctoral Oral Examination
  • FRIDAY, 27 AUGUST 2021 – Acceptance of final, approved doctoral dissertation by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies

We will also have an information session about the Virtual Defence process on Wednesday, June 2. This session will be advertised in the regular Monday updates from GradUpdate.

Please distribute this email to any faculty or students you think may be interested.

Best,

Robyn
