World Food Programme Photo Exhibition – The Importance of Nutrition – March 18

In collaboration with the Liu Institute of Global Affairs, join us in the FNH atrium on Wednesday March 18 at 5pm for the World Food Programme photo exhibition reception titled “The Importance of Nutrition”. A gallery of 12 different prints will be showcased, highlighting the importance of supplying the right food at the right time. Light refreshments will be served.

Opening Reception – World Food Programme (WFP) Photo Exhibition on The Importance of Nutrition
March 18th at 5:00pm
Food, Nutrition and Health Atrium – see map.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) provides food assistance to more than 80 million people in 75 of the world’s poorest countries each year.   WFP’s unique role as the UN’s frontline agency addressing hunger and nutrition would not be possible without the financial support from donors like Canada.

Canada is a global leader in supporting nutrition around the world.  These photographs and captions explain the importance of nutrition in WFP’s work and show how improving nutrition – by increasing access to healthy and nutritious food – saves lives.

Discussion Questions:

  • How has food assistance changed over the last 50 years?
  • Why is nutrition so important?
  • How important is Canada’s leadership role in investing in nutrition to improve maternal, newborn and child health?
  • Do you see a connection between food security and peace and security?
  • What can you and your school do to make a difference?

More information available from the Liu Institute for Global Issues.

This exhibition is part of the UBC Future of Food Global Dialogue Series, which brings together food security and sustainability experts from across North America to engage the UBC community and the public around global food security issues. The series is jointly sponsored by the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability, Liu Institute for Global Issues, and the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm.
