Personal Finance Workshop – Sept 10 – Please RSVP

We have heard from a number of MBA students that they would appreciate a workshop regarding tips on personal finance.

As such we will be hosting a workshop to help answer some of your questions.

How can I create a financial plan for my future? Should I start now or wait until I’m done school?  Should I buy a home or continue to rent? Where is the market heading? Should I invest in an RRSP or a TFSA?

Please RSVP if you are able to join us for this workshop

When? Tuesday September 10th from 12:15pm – 1:45pm

Where? HA 132

*Feel free to bring your lunch to the session.

Our guest speakers from Scotia Bank include:

Adil Chagani – Wealth Advisor: Adil has over 22 years of professional experience as a trusted advisor to executives, business owners, retirees and corporations, providing sound financial management and guidance.  Adil will be speaking about long-term wealth planning strategies to help you plan for your future.

Lynn Kelly – Home Financing Advisor: Lynn has over 26 years in the home financing industry and has seen the market through several cycles.  She will provide some insight into the question of buying vs. renting in the Vancouver market.

Opening Week is just around the corner and it is mandatory that all students attend the full week, from Monday August 26th to Friday August 30th. From Inspirational Keynote speaker Rick Hansen to the famous UBC Ropes Course, Opening Week will be action-packed!

Here is the detailed 2013 FT MBA Opening Week Schedule, with information regarding locations, dress code, what to bring, pre-readings and activities. Please review this document over the next week as there are some pre-readings to do (Lieber Case), paperwork to fill out and at least one resource you will need to purchase from the UBC Bookstore.

Laptops: Our presenters have asked that you bring your own laptop on a number of the days – if you won’t have a laptop as of the week of the 26th please let Cherry know ASAP so that we can source one for you for the relevant workshops: cherry.wang@sauder.ubc.ca. Please note that while not required, a laptop is highly recommended while in the UBC MBA program – our office can provide a limited number of laptops for Opening Week, but these are not available for student use after that.

Ropes Course: Please fill out the attached PAL waiverPAL medical forms to bring with you on Tuesday morning.

The facilitators for the Ropes Course can modify the activities so that there is a role for everybody, regardless of physical or emotional ability. If you have concerns about participating in the Ropes Course, please contact Cherry to discuss: cherry.wang@sauder.ubc.ca.

Catering: Lunch will be catered for all of the days. Please bring a water bottle with you to keep yourself hydrated. If you have not completed the FT MBA Roster, I highly recommend you do so now, as this will help us cater to any of your dietary needs. This is particularly important if you have any food allergies. To complete the FT MBA roster, please click here.

Re: Business Cards

Hello,

It has come to my attention that when student’s use their CWL to log in and start the order process, it is asking students to “log out” as a result of the CWL ID not being classified as a Sauder student.

I have contacted Erica Hill, Admin Supervisor in our Administration Department here at Sauder who is responsible for the Business Card order process and website, and our key contact for our supplier (Xerox) in regards to this issue.  Once we have determined what is the cause, and when this issue is resolved I will let you know.

The process to order remains the same, and the website is accurate.  The “log in” process is currently not working.

Sorry for any inconvenience, will keep you all posted!

Best regards,

Carly Boettcher
