3 Investigation

CEAB GRADUATE ATTRIBUTE:  INVESTIGATION

Students graduating with an engineering degree from the University of British Columbia possess an ability to conduct investigations of complex problems by methods that include appropriate experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information in order to reach valid conclusions.

CIVIL ENGINEERING PROGRAM INDICATORS (required by CEAB):

Those graduating with a civil engineering degree will be able to:

  • 3.1:  Generate Ideas and Working Hypotheses;
  • 3.2:  Design Investigations – plan investigations involving information and data gathering, analysis, and/or experimentation;
  • 3.3:  Collect Data Appropriately – use appropriate procedures to collect and analyze data;
  • 3.4:  Synthesize Data and Information – synthesize data and information to reach appropriate conclusions;
  • 3.5:  Appraise the Quality of Results – appraise the validity of conclusions relative to the degrees of error and limitations of theory and measurement;
