CEAB GRADUATE ATTRIBUTE:  COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Students graduating with an engineering degree from the University of British Columbia possess an ability to communicate complex engineering concepts within the profession and with society at large.  Such ability includes reading, writing, speaking and listening, and the ability to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, and to give and effectively respond to clear instructions.

CIVIL ENGINEERING PROGRAM INDICATORS (required by CEAB):

Those graduating with a civil engineering degree will be able to:

  • 7.1:  Reading – read, understand, and interpret technical and non-technical information;
  • 7.2:  Writing – write and revise documents according to specific guidelines;
  • 7.3:  Public Discourse – effectively engage in discourse with multiple stakeholders including the public, including via participatory decision making, public speaking, writing, technical meetings, and presentations;
  • 7.4:  Comprehension – listen to and comprehend information, including instruction, reports, design documentation, and the viewpoints of multiple stakeholders including the public;
