Graduate Attributes Reporting

The Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) has established the 12 Graduate Attributes as:

  • a means of assessing whether or not an engineering program enables its graduates to meet engineering standards;
  • a way of discovering how current learning activities can be improved and aligned with educational goals;
  • a basis for continual learning and improvement.

Each CEAB attribute describes a professional characteristic possessed by an ideal graduate of an engineering school in Canada.  Institutions offering accredited engineering programs are required to assess the ability of the offered programs to support student development of each attribute.

CEAB Graduate Attribute Reporting requires institutions to:

  1. Define the offered program in terms of attribute indicators.  The unique set of attribute indicators defines and distinguishes the program offered by the institution.  In essence, each indicator describes a program-level learning outcome.
  2. Identify where in the program students engage in learning activities aimed at developing the graduate attributes.
  3. Measure and report the level of student achievement of each attribute indicator.
