Subject: Best Practices for professional networking on Linked In

Hi team,

Through my research in best practices for professional networking on Linked In, I was able to gather quite informative tips.  These tips will help optimize the profile and enhance its visibility in searches.  These are as follows:

  1.  Put in the Time and Effort to make your profile Awesome- A complete profile will beat all the odds and pay off the time and effort utilized.  It is imperative to fill out every single section of your profile to attract recruiters.
  2. Choose a high-quality Photo– It is not merely a photo but an illustration of qualities like passion, energy and charisma if the professional ambience is captured in the photo.  It should also be high quality to attract views.
  3. Fabricate a professional headline- This should not be limited to your current position, title and company.  In fact, it should also showcase your expertise, skills and awards.
  4.  Be thoughtful with words- Limit the use of overused words and portray your professionalism by using keywords relevant to your field.  Carefully chosen keywords will make a profile appear higher in searches.
  5. Include a current job entry- Even if you are unemployed, fill the current job entry. Use optimistic phrases like, currently seeking job opportunities.
  6. Write and publish your work- A great way to get noticed is by writing and sharing your perspective about current issues or events in your field.
  7. Be part of a Linked In Group- Linked In Groups are an incredible resource for connecting with your profession. Joining a group relevant to your profession will demonstrate your engagement in the field and will keep you updated with ongoing networking events.
  8. Create a personalized URL- This will make you easily trackable. A personalized URL should be between 5 and 30 characters.
  9. Visit Linked In often- Visiting the site regularly will keep you in the loop with the colleagues and happenings around the field.  Once a week or so is good enough to check messages, respond to connection requests or recommendations and commenting on articles.
  10. Don’t add people you don’t know- In an attempt to increase the connections, don’t add unknown people. If enough people reject your request, Linked In can shut down your account.

These are some of the important practices that can assist in building and maintaining a great professional network on Linked In.  Although it is a social network for professionals, it enhances your personal traits as well.  Linked In offers a full featured career board, therefore, it is imperative that we strengthen our career potentials by following these guidelines.  I wish you best in setting up your profiles and building your career network.
