SUBJECT: Progress Report – Determining the Feasibility of a Recycling/Waste Reduction Program at University Village Food Court
This progress report outlines the aspects of a Final Report concerning the Feasibility of a Recycling/Waste Reduction Program at the University Village Food Court.
- Audience
The University Endowment Lands (UEL) is comprised of four different neighborhood zones: A, B, C, and D, where the University Village Food Court (UVFC) is situated. The intended audience of this report is Mojan Nozari, Claire Huxtable, and Dan Johnstone, who sit on the Community Advisory Council representing Zone D. The Community Advisory Council advises the University Endowment Lands Manager (John Braman) on issues involving cost, quality and capacity of community services in the UEL.
- Purpose
The purpose of this report is to determine the feasibility of a recycling/waste reduction program at the University Village Food Court. This report will outline recommendations of alternatives for non-recyclable food containers, and recommendations for a recycling program.
- Significance
A recycling/waste reduction program at UVFC lies in accordance with UBC’s zero-waste initiative. UBC is hoping to divert 80% of waste from landfills by 2020, and is implementing a Zero Waste Foodware Strategy that comes into effect September 2020 (encompassing all restaurants on UBC campus). While the Zero Waste Foodware Strategy outlines some general alternatives for non-recyclable containers, this report will recommend a specific strategy for the University Village Food Court.
