The Cloud Changing the Message

Paying homage to the McLuhan Centenary, I think the emergence cloud computing will be significant to education in that the actual learning materials will be shifting to something new. I’ve previously mentioned the iTunes-ization of media when discussing eBooks, and I think this can be further generalized. People are obviously excited over iCloud ie iTunes on a shared drive. So I think there are opportunities and research to be had for looking into new types, or shapes, of media that will be distributed via the cloud. Long, flowing text will likely change forever, and the twitterization of information will continue. This isn’t unlike Facebook, where people’s lives and thoughts go through a reduction into bit-sized information and interactions. So if you can think of a way to harness the media, then the cloud may provide a great opportunity for a venture in education.
