Eli Luberoff, CEO

Eli, like most elementary students were exposed to the TI-83 graphing calculator. Eli began working on software that would become Desmos.com during a year long hiatus from Yale University, returning to graduate summa cum laude with degrees in Math and Physics in 2009.

The product is the next generation of the graphing calculator that is free, online and in the education space. The company is based in the heart of San Francisco.

Desmos

The company vision was inspired from the work of Paul Lockert and Dan Meyer YouTube Preview Image who believe that learning is a process of exploration and discovery, and given access to the right tools and great teachers that all students will understand and enjoy math. They would like to create a world with universal math literacy, where students are not led to believe that math is too hard. The company has reinvented the graphing calculator for the 21st century, building one of the most advanced html5 apps on the web and now they are delving into project-based learning to replace multiple –choice testing.
Teachers can set up a free web demo to learn from Desmos creators and find assistance for revamping lesson plans, learn to integrate the calculator to make math more fun and engaging for the student. Improve student interest and participation.

The companies executive team is very young, and the company is expanding and hiring currently.

The company has some interesting perks, especially the one about “SLEEP” these are right off the website:

Constant Learning:

Learning permeates everything we do. If no one in the company is an expert on the thing you want to learn, we’ll buy the book or bring in the author. We have an unlimited Amazon account, regular hack days, and deep connections to great thinkers through our network of advisors and investors.

Health & Happiness:

From our no-questions-asked “sleep-in” policy to our full gym memberships, health & happiness are always on the forefront of our minds. We believe it’s impossible to do do your best work if you’re not feeling at the top of your game.
