Invitation to LFS Holiday Café – Wed. Dec. 16, 2020 (3-4:30 pm)

Standard

Join Dean Rickey Yada and LFS faculty, staff and students at the LFS Holiday Café!

In this online social, we will usher in the holiday season, and recognize outstanding service through our annual faculty, staff and graduate student awards.

Also… this is a riff off the usual LFS Research Café, where we typically learn about one of our faculty member’s research programs. As this year is unique in every way, our new faculty members who joined UBC in 2020 – Gurcharn Brar, Matias Margulis, Risa Sargent, Tamara Cohen and Thorsten Knipfer – will present in a quick-round Research Café.

Photos wanted!  We welcome any seasonal photos showing you, your ‘social bubble’ and pets getting into a wintery, holiday mode. If you want to be part of the LFS Holiday Café slideshow, email your pictures to Karen.lee98@ubc.ca before Monday, Dec. 14 with ‘Slideshow’ in the subject line.

We hope to see you there!  Send any questions to Karen.lee98@ubc.ca or eric.skalij@ubc.ca.

Academic & Wellness Check In’s

Standard

On Behalf of the LFS Graduate & Postdoctoral Office

To:  LFS Graduate Students

We hope this email finds you well.  It’s hard to believe we’re coming to the end of another year, but what an interesting year it’s been!

We wanted to inform you of a new program starting this month.  The LFS Graduate & Postdoctoral Office will begin offering mandatory annual Academic & Wellness Check in’s with all research-based students (these check-in’s are also available for all professional program students as well, although not mandatory).  These individual zoom meetings will cover several topics including academic progress, funding, and wellbeing.

As access to our office has been restricted due to COVID,  it’s important that you feel supported by us and that you are aware of resources and services available to you, even if most of you still aren’t on campus.

Students can book their appointment through Canvas (instructions are attached).  At present, there are a limited number of appointments available this month to accommodate those students who may have pressing issues.  There will be additional appointments scheduled in the new year.

We hope you will find these meetings valuable.  Please don’t ever hesitate to contact us if you need anything.  We are here to help you.

Sincerely,

Sean, Shelley and Lia

The LFS Graduate & Postdoctoral Office

APBI Diversity and Inclusion Focus Groups

Standard

Thank you for your prior support in distributing the APBI Diversity and Inclusion Survey across the program, as a follow up to that survey we are now conducting focus groups to allow participants to elaborate on topics and themes in the survey or speak freely to the topic. Once again, I would like to ask for your help in distributing the following survey that allows students to sign up for focus group time slots.

At this time we are hoping to reach undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in a related Applied Animal Biology Program. I have attached both the recruitment advertisement as well as the consent cover letter. Please feel welcome to send to any person that this is relevant to.

The survey to sign up for time slots can be accessed here: https://ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2udkzjObKP1i537
