Changes to payroll deduction and fee deferrals

Standard

Starting Summer 2020, students will be asked to apply for fee deferrals through a new online application form and will no longer be offering payroll deductions.

2020 Tuition deferral UBCV & UBCO

2020 on line Deferral Application Deadline Dates

Removal of the payroll deduction option

In the last few years we have noticed a decrease in the number payroll deduction applications received from students (80) in comparison, fee deferral has grown (270) for 2019 Winter session.

Unlike fee deferral, Payroll deduction requires coordination with UBC Payroll, meeting semimonthly payroll deadlines, running SISC jobs to send/receive files, ensuring that students have a Social Insurance Number on their student record, communicating with students if scheduled deductions fail due to SIN changes or no active EPAF and early application deadlines which many students cannot meet.

It is for these reasons that a decision was made to eliminate this payment method and offer fee deferral to both domestic and international graduate students employed as Teaching or Research assistants effective Summer 2020.

NEW Fee deferral process

The new online application for students will be available March 1st for 2020 Summer. Students must submit a copy of their EPAF along with their application.

The link to the application can be found on the Student Services website under Other Payment Options:

Online application periods are:

  • Summer session: March 1 – April 30
  • Winter Term 1: July 15 – August 31
  • Winter Term 2:  November 1 – December 31

Tuition and student fees will be deferred as follows:

  • Summer Term 1 – due date June 30th
  • Winter Term 1 – due date Nov 30th
  • Winter Term 2 – due date March 31th

If you have any questions or concerns about the elimination of payroll deductions please contact me directly.

LFS research in Cambodia

Standard

Hi LFS,

Thought I’d share a quick research blurb: https://www.facebook.com/HKICambodia/posts/892751397835795

I am a Human Nutrition masters student living in Cambodia conducting a randomized controlled trial on iron supplementation under Dr. Crystal Karakochuk.

This was a small post I put together for the NGO I work with and we will start posting more on facebook. Thought I would send it in case you want to share on LFS’s facebook page.

I have have been posting on a UBC personal blog about my experience: https://blogs.ubc.ca/jordiesjourney/
