Grad Intern posting – AFRF 2021

Standard

I am the manager at UBC’s Alex Fraser Research Forest in Williams Lake, and I have a unique internship position available this summer for a graduate student.  We are looking for a graduate student intern to help bring outdoor, immersive educational programming, specifically the Wild and Immersive program, from the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest to the Alex Fraser Research Forest in Williams Lake , BC.  Is it possible to have the attached job ad distributed to graduate students in Land and Food Systems Faculty?  If not, it there a more appropriate forum for me to share this in?

2021 UBC 3MT Competition

Standard

The UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is happening virtually next week! Everyone is welcome to come out and cheer on the graduate students and learn about research at UBC.

The 3MT is an academic competition that assists current graduate students with fostering effective presentation and communication skills. Participants have just three minutes to explain the breadth and significance of their research project to a non-specialist audience.

Wednesday, March 31 from 12:00-1:30 p.m.
Register here.

Among the ten finalists is LFS’s Tebogo Leepile (Tebby), a PhD candidate in the Integrated Studies in Land and Food Systems program (supervisors: Dr Eduardo Jovel & Dr Crystal Karakochuk). Tebogo’s presentation is titled ‘MyData_MyVoice: Prevalence of Anemia among San Women and Young Children in Rural Botswana’

Show your support for Tebby by registering and being part of the People’s Choice vote!

Looking for graduate student stories!

Standard

UBC Library is interested in hearing from LFS students who found the library has been critical to their studies or research. What library resources did you use that enhanced your research or made a difference to you as a student? UBC Library will write a short story that will appear in the LFS alumni e-newsletter called LFS Community Connects and on the library’s website. If you are interested, please contact charlotte.lawson@ubc.ca.
