Examen II: Lunes 21 de noviembre

Hola a todos

Aquí está la información sobre nuestro examen la próxima semana.

The format is similar to Examen I.   It is all inclusive, although the emphasis will be on lessons 4 and 5.

students that can expect to:

A) Fill in the blanks in situations where they have to:

1. Conjugate verbs in the present tense within given contexts [remember all the irregulars and stem changers].  The infinitives to be conjugated may be given in either English or Spanish. [Ellos (to fly) ___________ a Cancún esta noche].

2.  Use the present progressive.

3.  Use tener expressions in context.

4.  Use comparative forms.

5.  Complete sentences with appropriate vocabulary, or come up with the appropriate term based on a short definition:

Mi hermana no es morena, es ________.

Comer por la tarde es ______________.

B) Write short paragraphs or dialogues based on situation-like topics.  Students can expect to write on two topics similar to those that appear in the Qué dice Ud. sections at the end of each lesson [see for example p 116 and 144].  30 to 40 words per topic is expected.   This part will account for about 30 to 35% of the exam.

C) Translate into Spanish. This section is text-specific and comprises the translation into Spanish of short situations or paragraphs similar to those we practice in class [with Practica de Traduccion].  This section is all inclusive in terms of vocab and structures and will account for about 35 to 40% of the exam..

Aquí también encuentran la práctica de traducción para el examen.  Vamos a hacer un poco hoy en clase, y un poco el miércoles.

Lección de miércoles 9 de noviembre

Hola a todos

Hoy nos dedicamos a estudiar el diálogo de capítulo 5, y también de la lección sobre los verbos o-ue.  You can find the notes on Monday´s blog entry (the one before this one)

Also I put up a different set of notes last Monday on comparatives than I usually use, that one was for a course I taught at Thompson Rivers and doesn´t include the superlative.  This one includes both:

Also, if you missed Monday´s class, we did go over the midterm answers and I let you see your midterms although I do have to shred them.  If you would like to sit down with me to go over it in more detail, either to take notes or to ask for help,  Send me an e-mail and make an appointment, or you can come  see me after class.  I plan to keep the midterms until the end of the course.
