Hello world!

A little about me.

I have only recently began self-identifying as an educator, but have been acting in this capacity for some time. In my youth I facilitated outdoor education at overnight camps in Alberta and Quebec. I also led sustainability tours of a local ski resort during my undergrad studies, and minored in Environmental Education (my BA was in Geography). I was a teaching assistant throughout my Masters studies as well as a tutor for undergraduates. Nearing the end of my Masters program (also in Geography), I participated in several workshops centered on instructional skills and completed a Certificate Program in Undergraduate Teaching and Learning. I wrote a teaching philosophy, practiced curriculum development, and began to see myself as an educator. Since graduating from my MA last year, I have jumped into teaching at the undergraduate level and also support academic programs as an Academic Assistant at the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at UBC Farm. Both of these roles compel me to reflect critically on my teaching practice both in and out of the classroom.

I created this blog as part of a mini-MOOC called “Teaching with WordPress”. Throughout the 4 week course, I will use this tool as a way to work collaboratively and reflectively with my peers to think about open pedagogies. I also hope to think about the potential applications of using open educational resources in the outdoor classroom.
