Hazard type: earthquake considerations

Short Description: Infrastructure that may be vulnerable to seismic or landslide activity.

Long Description: Capilano Lake is an artificial lake in North Vancouver. In the early 1950’s, the Cleveland Dam was constructed on the Capilano River. The lake is 5.6km in length and 80m deep, holding roughly 75 million cubic metres of water. Is the dam holding this large lake capable of withstanding the mega quake that will inevitably occur in the Pacific North West?

Artificial Capilano Lake, a Vancouver reservoir, contained by the Cleveland Dam.

media1: Earthquake awareness wake-up call long overdue for the North Shore, including concerns about dams holding back huge volumes of water as Vancouver’s water supply.
