Short Description: Sea walls mitigate potential hazards due storm waves with high winds and a long fetch.
Long Description: Many of the homes on the waterfront in West Vancouver have built seawalls to protect them from high waves during storms. These waves can reach as high as 1m, heightened by strong onshore southwesterly winds and the long “fetch” in this direction. The wall includes glass panels, which are attractive, but increase the vulnerability to logs and debris carried by storm waves.
Steerman Beach adjacent to Cypress creek’s mouth. Beach front homes are expensive, but may be vulnerable to storm surge and waves.
