Calypogeia azurea

Habitat

 

 

Calypogeia spp. (including Calypogeia azurea) can be found terrestrially on soil, rotten logs and very moist sites.

 

 

 


Gametophyte

Overall Structure:

The morphology and growth conditions of the gametophytic and sporophytic generations of Calypogeia azurea is similar to Calypogeia muelleriana.  

Leaf Structure:

 

The oil bodies within leaf cells are distinctly unique.  “Azurea” refers to the vivid blue color the oil bodies display.  This blue color makes the oil bodies easily distinguishable from the chloroplasts.
