Email Memorandum – Zainab Rauf Tramboo

MEMORANDUM

To:            Dr. Erika Paterson, Professor English Technical Writing UBC

From:       Zainab Rauf Tramboo, Student English Technical Writing UBC

Date:        June 19, 2020

Subject:    Posting of Research Proposal

As instructed in the Unit 2:1 Assignment, the research proposal for my upcoming formal report has been uploaded on the team forum. I am hopeful that the chosen topic is feasible for the assignment requirements.

The subject of my proposal is the low student voter turnout rate for the University of British Columbia (UBC) Alma Mater Society (AMS) general elections. Since 2014, AMS general election student voting turnout rate has not only been a low 20% but has seen a decreasing trend. While appreciating the methods implemented by the UBC and AMS administration in order to encourage students to vote, we need to acknowledge that this has been a challenge. It is imperative that the students vote and are made aware of legislative and social aspects impacting their student life. In order for their voices to be heard and needs to be fulfilled, it is important we discover successful methods to encourage students to vote.

My proposal includes:

  • Background information on UBC AMS general elections
  • Description of the low voter turnout rate occurring every year
  • Proposed solution
  • Scope of the study
  • Methods of data collection
  • My qualifications and background

Please review the research proposal and let me know if any adjustments are required. I would appreciate any feedback you can offer.

Thank you for your consideration.
