MEMORANDUM

SUBJECT:                Progress Report on the Formal Report

 

The following is the detailed information of the progress on my formal report.

 

Audience: The audience for this report will be the Office of Fire Commissioner (OFC), who provides advice guidance and support to members of British Columbia fire service (Government of British Columbia, 2020).

 

Purpose of the report: The purpose of this report will be reducing the chance of human-caused forest fire within the Okanagan basin area based on analyzing the variation trend of human-caused forest fire distribution, and looking for the relationship of this trend and the human activities.

 

Significance of the report: The report is outcoming result and recommendation is of great importance since this is an analysis based on a conclusion of the historical data of forest fire that the fire managing department will be interested in. In addition, with the relationship to the human activities, it would be much clear that how to raise the public awareness on forest fire.

 

Research plan:

  • Making clear the overall purpose and strategy of the research
  • Search for background information
  • Search for useful data on the Internet for analysis with ArcGIS
  • Analysis data with ArcGIS
  • Select representative location for the field inspection/observation
  • Field trip to selected location and obtain field data
  • Combine and compare background information, analysis result, and field data
  • Discussion on the above combination and see if further research process is needed

 

Writing schedule:

  • Background information research – completed
  • Searching for GIS data – in process
  • Determining three to four representative location for field trip – July 13
  • Field trip to obtain field data –Before August 1
  • GIS data analysis – July 17 to July 24
  • Analysis result discussion – July 27 to July 31
  • Overall result combination and discussion – August 1 to August 2
  • Provide solution, conclusion, and recommendation based on the research outcome – August 2 to August 3
  • Complete drafting the report – August 4
  • Peer review on report draft – August 6
  • Finalize the formal report and self-review – August 9
