IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS EMPLOYED AS RA’S OR TA’S
Tuition fee Payroll Deduction/Fee Deferral Application
Deadline dates:
2019/20 Summer Session Term 1: Mar. 28, 2019
2019/20 Winter Session Term 1: Aug. 14, 2019
2019/20 Winter Session Term 2: Nov. 29, 2019
*Note you are not eligible for this fee payment option if you are receiving award money that covers all or most of your tuition fees.

2019 Tuition Fee Payroll Deduction Procedures
Domestic Graduate Students
Students receiving award money that covers all or most of their tuition fees are not eligible for this payment option (e.g. Graduate Support Initiative award).
Tuition Fee Payroll Deductions are available to Graduate students that are:
· employed as Teaching Assistants, Research Assistants,
Application deadline dates are as follows (submit one application per session):
2019 Summer Session:
Term 1 (May – June): Mar. 28, 2019**
2019/20 Winter Session:
Term 1 (Sept – Dec):Aug. 14, 2019**
Term 2 (Jan – Apr): Nov. 29, 2019**
**No exceptions to these deadlines can be made
How to apply:
1. Complete a Tuition Payroll Deduction/Fee Deferral Application form. A separate application is required for each Session (Winter/Summer).
2. Attach a copy of your “Student Appointment or E-PAF form” (available from Shiho in LFS Finance Office, MCML Building). Letters are not accepted.
3. Drop off the Tuition Payroll Deduction/Fee Deferral Application along with a copy of your Student Appointment or E-PAF form to Enrolment Services Advising Centre, Concourse level, Brock Hall. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
***Please note for Winter session you may apply for both Term 1 and 2 Payroll Deductions in August provided that your appointment covers both terms***. If deductions are requested for both terms but the “Student Appointment” only covers one term, only the term that the appointment covers, will be processed.
Additional Information:
- It is the students’ responsibility to ensure that the proper deduction amount is being taken off their paycheque. If the full amount is not deducted then the student is responsible for paying the remaining amount through normal channels. To find out how much each deduction should be, simply divide your total owing, tuition and student fees, for each term by 6 (note Summer Session has only 4 deductions).

Note: For Summer session the July and August UPass assessment will not be paid through payroll deductions. These fees will remain due on the standard July due date see Dates and Deadlines.

2019 Tuition Fee Deferral Procedures for
International Graduate Students
(This is in lieu of automatic payroll deductions)
Students receiving award money that covers all or most of their tuition fees are not eligible for deferral
Automatic tuition fee payroll deductions are not possible for new or continuing International Graduate Students. In place of Payroll Deductions, the University has agreed to defer tuition fees to a later date within the term(s) to allow International students to make payments by instalments.
If you are an International student registered in a Graduate program and:
- Are assessed International tuition fees, and
- are employed as a TA or RA, and
- are receiving an “International Partial Tuition Scholarship”, and
- wish to pay your tuition fees by instalments.
Application deadline dates are as follows (submit one application per session):
2019/20 Summer Session Term 1: Mar. 28, 2019**
2019/20 Winter Session Term 1: Aug. 14, 2019**
2019/20 Winter Session Term 2: Nov. 29, 2019**

How to Apply:
1. Complete a Tuition Payroll Deduction/Fee Deferral Application form.
2. Check off item 3 on the application form: “Employed as a Teaching or Research Assistant and the Recipient of the International Partial Tuition Scholarship”.
3. Attach a copy of your Student Appointment or E-PAF form (available from Shiho in LFS Finance Office, MCML Building).
4. Submit the application to Enrolment Services, Advising Centre, Concourse level, Brock Hall. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Fee Deferral dates are as follows:
Summer 2019 Term 1 (May – June) deferred to June 30, 2019 (note Term 2 Pass fee will remain due in July)
Winter 2019/20 Term 1 (Sep – Dec.) deferred to Nov. 30, 2019
Winter 2019/20 Term 2 (Jan – April) deferred to March 29, 2020

Students are encouraged to make partial payments towards their tuition fees in advance of the deferment date.
Fees not Paid by Due Date:
Tuition balances not paid by the due date will result in student accounts being placed on financial hold and assessed a $35.00 processing fee. Interest is assessed towards the end of each month and is charged at a rate of prime plus 6% per annum. When a student’s account is placed on financial hold, no subsequent registration activity will be allowed and no statement of grades, transcripts of academic record or graduation diploma will be issued.
