SUBJECT:    Best practices for professional networking on Linked In

A LinkedIn profile is acting as a shop window to display one’s personal skills and experiences of his/her professional growth, as well as a platform to cultivate the networking strategy of one’s career. To better prepare the setup of your LinkedIn profile, the following 10 suggested practices were from my research on the strategy of how to build up the LinkedIn profile that provide to our team:

  1. Set up a dedicated email address

This is the first and foremost step prior to the create of LinkedIn profile. As the account of LinkedIn profile is verified by the email address, a dedicated email address is needed for making incoming information easy to manage and bringing convenience to your networking.

  1. Develop strategy

Before actually filling up the LinkedIn page with contents, an overall strategy should be preliminary developed. That gives you a chance to brainstorm how your page should look like and aiming to your objective. The decided content should fit the format on the page.

  1. Attract the potential employer and partner

Make sure to provide the related information which is not only demonstrating who you are and what you did, but also to have a page that is the easiest to be found by your potential employer and partner (who are working in your professional field). Such as including key words related to your field or industry within the headline.

  1. Fully complete your profile

Each section on your LinkedIn profile page is useful and meaningful. They provide opportunities for you to show both your experiences and abilities as detailed as you can. And you do not want to miss any chance on it since anyone of it can be the element that the employer is looking for.

  1. Use real and professional look photo

A real photo is highly recommended on your LinkedIn page unless you do not care how low the chance you will get a job interview. A professional look photo provides a good impression to your audience.

  1. Keep updating your profile

Making sure the information in your profile is the most up to date. An outdated profile can cause misunderstandings from your audiences.

  1. Be proactive

Having setup your LinkedIn profile does not mean your audience will come to view your page automatically. It is important to actively connect to your target no mater they are employers, companies, groups, or specific industry. The more you do networking with others on LinkedIn, the more chances that you can get noticed.

  1. Build up meaningful and relevant connections

The way to be successful using the LinkedIn profile to assist your networking is not based on the quantity of your connections, but the quality of your connections. After clarifying your target, every effort and time you take should effectively aiming to that.

  1. Have your personal settings

There is a sort of settings within LinkedIn which can make your page the best to fit your requirements.

  1. Frequently check

Check your LinkedIn page frequently to ensure if you received someone’s messages. At the same time, keep browsing on any networking profile which would be useful for you.

I hope these will give my team members some positive advices and inspires on how to setup their LinkedIn profile and get start the networking for the upcoming assignment. I believe we can setup our own LinkedIn profile nicely as we will exchange our opinion on our memo. Thank you for the interest.
