MEMORANDUM

To:           Thoth, Technical Writing Team

Subject:    Best Practices for Personal LinkedIn Pages

As specified in the Unit 2:2 assignment, I have researched guidelines for using Linked, a professional networking site, to its best potential. Below is a compiled list of the top ten best practices for using LinkedIn. This list aims to help the writing team in creating or improving their personal LinkedIn pages.

The best practices are as follows:

  1. Always select a professional picture for your profile. To form an excellent first impression make sure the picture is neat, your face takes up around 60% of it, and you are wearing what you would wear to work
  2. Complete every section of the profile that LinkedIn automatically asks you to fill. Do not leave any fields blank.
  3. Use supporting media to showcase skills. This involves including a link to research works, an article, formal pictures etc.
  4. While filling out the profile, treat it as a resume. Make it crisp, brief, neat and easy to understand yet professional.
  5. Use specific keywords in your profile. This allows the profile to show up for searches associated with the targeted industry. For example Critical thinking, Financial Analysis etc.
  6. Compose a standout headline in order to specify profession or education.
  7. Build credibility through blogging or publishing. Blogging allows an in-depth view of interests, specialities, and hobbies. Publishing formal, factual, discussion-worthy professional posts is an imperative way to network.
  8. Connect with the appropriate people. LinkedIn is all about making connections and growing professional network. Connecting with colleagues, batchmates, professors etc. helps drive attention to your profile and help you grab opportunities.
  9. Make it personal. When connecting with someone, write a message outlining why the connection is meaningful personally to you.
  10. Join groups that cater to your professional interests and needs i.e. Canadian Stock Brokers

Thank you for considering this list. Hopefully, these guidelines will be helpful in the creation of this week’s LinkedIn pages. LinkedIn is an important and rigorous platform for career-advancing, networking, job searching, and more.
