Subject: Best Practices for Professional Networking on LinkedIn

As you know, assignment 2:2 from English 301 had us all research the best practices for professional networking on the LinkedIn platform.  Please find below the best practices I discovered in my research.

  • Ensure your profile picture is professional and friendly –  Profiles with a photo are more likely to be viewed. This is people’s first professional impression of you.
  • Write a catchy headline – The headline should catch your reader’s attention and make them want to read more. It can be more than your job title. What defines you?
  • Get a custom URL – A unique URL helps others find you. Think of it as your business card.
  • Optimize your background – Show yourself in action. It can be at work or play, but it helps create the full package/profile.
  • Fill in the summary section – This is your chance to explain what makes you unique or special. Make yourself stand out from others.
  • Complete all sections of your profile – The more detail in your profile, the more hits you will get in searches, and the more interest you will generate.
  • Keep your profile positive and use professional etiquette – This is your professional image. Treat each interaction like an interview or a work meeting.
  • Stay up to date – An outdated profile send a bad impression of your professional work ethic. You will also quickly lose connections.
  • Post engaging content consistently – The goal is to provide valuable content. By posting consistently you will become someone others follow. It also positions you as an expert in your industry.
  • Connect with others – This may be as simple as liking or commenting on posts or asking for specific advice.
  • Join LinkedIn groups related to your industry – Doing so provides an opportunity to network with others in the industry.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like further information. I look forward to connecting with you on LinkedIn.
