Subject: Best Practices When Emailing Professors

I understand how stressful course selection can be for students. As a result, I have read over your email and have provided some tips for writing professional emails to professors in hopes of getting faster responses.

Tips for writing professional emails to professors:

  • It is important to address your professor with his/her preferred title
  • A polite greeting is necessary to create a good first impression
  • The tone of your email should be professional but friendly – avoid using casual language and slang
  • Do not include any irrelevant information
  • It is helpful to review the email before sending to make sure there are no grammatical or spelling errors
  • Like the greeting, it is important to end the email in a polite manner by thanking the reader.

Thank you for reaching out to ENGL 301 for advice. I hope that these tips will guide you in improving your writing for professional emails. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me.
