Final Thoughts on the Ratio Test

Recall our Learning Objectives

In this lesson we only covered

  • the ratio test.

After reading this lesson and completing a suitable number of exercises, you should be able to, given an infinite series

  • apply the ratio test to determine whether or not the infinite series converges, diverges, or if the ratio test fails to provide any information

What We Didn't Cover

In this lesson, we did not explore the concepts of

  • absolute convergence
  • conditional convergence

These concepts are needed to prove the ratio test, and are introduced in our appendix on the Proof of the Ratio Test.

These concepts are sometimes taught before the ratio test is introduced, and your instructor may expect you to be familiar with them.
