Gene’s Short Biography

Gene Moo Lee is an Associate Professor (with tenure) of Information Systems & Analytics at UBC Sauder School of Business. He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin. His research in AI and business analytics has been published in MIS Quarterly (MISQ), Information Systems Research (ISR), Journal of MIS (JMIS), Journal of Business Ethics, and Journal of Cybersecurity. His research has been supported by 25+ grants (e.g., U.S. National Science Foundation, Canada SSHRC) for $1.5 million. He has served multiple editorial roles in journals, including ISR (AE), Decision Support Systems (SE), Production and Operations Management (Guest SE), MISQ (Guest AE twice), and JMIS (Guest AE). He received the AIS Early Career Award in 2019 and the Reviewer of the Year Award of 2021 from both MISQ and ISR. He worked for Samsung, AT&T, Intel, and Goldman Sachs, and has collaborated with tech firms (e.g., Samsung Research, Hyundai/Kia, Yahoo, IGAWorks, KISTI, Canada Energy Regulator), and holds 11 patents in mobile technology. He is the Director of the Data & AI Research Group.

Gene Moo Lee is an Associate Professor (with tenure) of Information Systems at UBC Sauder School of Business and Director of UBC’s Data + AI Research Group. His research on AI and business analytics has been published in top-tier journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and Journal of MIS. He is an AIS Distinguished Member and received the Reviewer of the Year Awards from both MISQ and ISR. He currently serves as an Associate Editor of ISR and a Senior Editor at Decision Support Systems. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from UT Austin. Before academia, he worked for Samsung, AT&T, Intel, and Goldman Sachs and holds 11 patents in mobile technology.
