Chainsaw Ballet

“My lover was a logger.  He held me in his fond embrace and broke three vertebrae.”

Chainsaw Ballet was created for the Woodhaven Conservancy Eco-Art project. This work satirized our nostalgic relationship to logging and the mythology of our dominance over nature. The performance was filmed and turned into an experimental film that recently won a Seven Summits Award at the Mountain Film Awards in Mammoth Lakes, California.

Chainsaw Ballet was also exhibited at the Vancouver Queer Film Festival and is discussed in “Gay Vancouver: BC’s online Gay Guide.” http://gayvancouver.net/2013-vancouver-queer-film-fest/the-coast-is-queer-chainsaw-ballet-may-very-well-be-the-log-drivers-waltz-for-a-new-generation/

This project was funded through a Hampton Research Grant, The Canada Council, and the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, UBC Okanagan.
