The IGS Graduate Students Conference, Rethinking Sustainability New Creative and Critical Horizons, expanded what it means to think about sustainability, and indeed, to think sustainably. The Conference featured an international selection of graduate student research presentations that highlighted positive efforts to approach sustainability, but also conversely, work that interrogated the very idea of sustainability, the mechanisms by which ‘sustainability,’ both as an idea and a practice, reflect conservative approaches to re-inscribing hegemonic forms of oppression, or the deployment of sustainability as a greenwashing strategy.
