I know what you mean about standing on the sidelines because you feel you can’t keep up or that your work will not be as “good” as someone else’s, but as you mentioned it is important to just jump in and give it a go. It is the only way we can learn.
Thanks for the shout out, let me know if you find a better way to do this. I don’t like how gifninja creates such a small pixalated image. This Lebowski is the model I am shooting for. Nice clear, smooth image with minimal animation.
Agreed. I think for this DS course to really fly, we need to flag these questions as we go, identify the best interim steps (like your post), but keep pushing to create or repurpose tutorials for this kind of stuff.
Do you or others think the course wiki might be a good medium for that?

I agree a communal pool of tutorials might be useful, but there is also something to be said about the exploration of “figuring it out.” For me a large part of why I find tech so satisfying is that there are many ways to crack the nut, and while a simple tutorial would make it easier, I am not sure I would learn as much simply being told what to do.
It would be nice however to have a list of people who are adept at certain things, guide us and help when we get stuck. Having said that, now that I have experimented, I would love to know that there is a better tool than GifNinja out there to break down video into frames.
So maybe a forum of questions based on topics, skills, projects etc…would be useful. Just thinking out loud here.

I love the idea of the ds106.us/wiki as a space to put the tech tutorials, it is also where I will start oranizing all of these crazy ass ideas for assignmentz. Although, we also have an assignment space where people can put them in, and they can go seamlessly into the blog through Google Forms. Over the next week or so I am gonna start trying to formulate all this into some very loose, “logical,” process. maybe even send an email, and then figure out how the hell to do this.
Movie, movie, why am I confused on this? Is it Spinal Tap? I think I’m wrong, bu I so wanna be right.
