I got some great comments on my apocalyptic Waves post (one from an experienced body surfer) — and special thanks to Bob for pointing me to this zefrank video which does a lovely job of playing out the metaphor on the media side:

yeah. ze nailed it there. it’s a bit odd, though. he doesn’t blink for the whole thing. and he’s got that “I had a stroke and the right side of my face is paralyzed” thing going on. But it works. The surfers are the cool ones, because they know they didn’t create the wave, that it doesn’t give a crap about them, and that they’re just along for the ride. They’re there to have fun, not to be famous…
