Discussion guidelines

The discussion forums for this course are located on the Connect  page.

Discussion formats:

Announcements: information on the course updates, changes, relevant events and publications.

Students’ Cafe: a forum for student interactions; it will not be monitored by the instructor, but it is accessible to the instructor.

Weekly discussions are combined in 5 Units according to the course content. Each individual discussion has its’ own timeline (the dates when the discussion is on), a description of activity or a few starting questions.

Projects’ collections are peer sharing spaces for presenting your projects (sharing URL), describing your digital design solutions for particular instructional tasks, and also for asking questions and providing feedback, suggestions, and resources.

Participation guidelines:

Participation in the discussions is an important part of the course. You are expected to post to the discussions at least two times a week; for example, publishing a thread-starting message and follow up  on your colleagues’ posts, or joining the open discussions and adding your posts.

  • address each other by name;
  • bring in meaningful points: be specific and focused;
  • refer to ideas from the course reading materials using small quotations;
  • suggest an alternative point of view, or a new angle for analysis;
  • encourage constructive critique and respectfully challenge other points of view and opinions; remember we are critiquing the content, not the people;
  • share relevant experiences, research data and observations to support your point;
  • ask questions, provide incentives to follow up and continue the discussion;
  • keep the tone as positive and polite as possible

The rule of thumb for the participation is being meaningfully present in the discussions; acknowledging the responses to your questions, following up comments to your posts, and responding if other people have asked you to clarify your point.

Be concise in your discussion posts, try to express your idea not exceeding ~300 words.
