Greetings 1Ls and welcome to the Allard community! As incoming 1Ls, the transition to law school can be a bit overwhelming and one way to help ease the process is to sign up for the Legal Buddy Program. By doing so, you will be matched with an upper year law student who can offer you advice on life within and outside of Allard as a law student. Your Legal Buddy will be a great resource throughout your first year: to helping you access the best CANs, to answering any questions you might have (i.e. what is a CAN?). Who better to give advice on how to survive Public Law than those who already have?! Further, it is a great way to make a new connection outside of your 1L peers. Who knows, maybe you’ll become best friends? At the very least, on top of all the academic, social, and career insight you’ll receive, you’ll probably get some free coffees. If there is one thing I’ve learned during my time at Allard it is that upper year law students love to give advice. Seriously. So sign up, and help us magnify our time at Allard by being a part in making your 1L experience the best it can be.
The initial meet-up between 1L and upper year Legal Buddies will happen within the first few weeks of school. Details will be shared in the Weekly Bulletin, on social media, and via e-mail. So if you would like to sign up, please drop a few lines about yourself to me, Erin Kotz, the ALSS Ombudsperson (email@example.com).
I’ll be conducting an investigation to finding you the best Legal Buddy. A few helpful things to include for matching purposes would be: where you grew up, where you went to undergrad and what you studied, what brought you to law school, what you like to do for fun, and anything else you would like to share (i.e. hidden talents and other fun facts). You will have until Tuesday, September 6th, to send in your information for the matching process and should expect an introduction e-mail shortly afterwards.
