Greetings from Langley

Hey!

My name is Natalie and I am a Makerspace Educator in Langley, B.C. I teach at a Grade 6-8 Middle School and have had almost 1000 students come through our Makerspace this year! I have been teaching since 2002 (usually Math/Science) but was offered this exciting opportunity this year. I am thankful I said “yes”. To see students so engaged in their learning has been so encouraging.

This is my third MET course (having completed ETEC 500 and 510 previously). I am also taking 565A and 512 in addition to this course – so I’m going to be busy! I hope to continue finding engaging ways to get students interested in math/science and keep them curious!

  1. Wow Natalie,

That’s a lot of courses. You definitely will be busy but I’m sure you can pull it off! I took 565 and had a lot of fun with it. It was great to try my own hand at creating a course through MOODLE. It was challenging but definitely worthwhile. I wish you the best!

  2. Hi Natalie,

That is awesome that you are working in a Makerspace! The school I teach at in Abbotsford is in the process of constructing a Makerspace so I am excited to hear about your successes and challenges as the course progresses.

  3. Hi Natalie,

Which school do you teach at in Langley? I grew up there and know lots of fabulous teachers and administrators. I am also in ETEC 512 and ETEC 565A this summer, perhaps we can help each other stay on top of everything 🙂 I look forward to working with you.

    1. Hey Meagan!

We are gonna be busy!! I teach at Yorkson Creek Middle (we have been open for 3 years). I am fortunate to work with a lot of fantastic teachers and admin 🙂 Which school(s) did you attend? I would love to connect and stay on top of all these courses!

  4. “Makerspace Educator” – that sounds very close to my ideal job title. That must be a lot of fun! We had a small group of Grade 4/5 students involved in a Makerspace competition within our district this year, based on Rube Goldberg-style inventions. It was really neat to see them apply ideas from the Science curriculum and work collaboratively. They were so excited to share their completed project. Looking forward to working with you!

    1. Hi Laurie,

It is a lot of fun….and a lot of work 🙂 I’m thrilled that your Grade 4/5 got involved. It is wonderful to see students working collaboratively with others, problem-solving solutions, and getting hands-on. Looking forward to working with you too!
