Allard Law & Business Society

Welcome to Allard! You are in for a great year ahead—with so many unique ways of getting involved with the school and the broader legal community, you’ll never have a dull moment.

Something you’ll discover very quickly at Allard is the sheer volume of law firms in Vancouver. As a first year law student (or, to use law school lingo, 1L), interacting with law firms can feel overwhelming and intimidating, but it doesn’t need to. That’s where we come in to help.

The Allard Law & Business Society (“ALBS”—you will soon learn that Allard loves to use acronyms!) is a great forum for networking with Vancouver’s corporate firms. Throughout the year, we provide a myriad of different opportunities to get to know lawyers and law students working at various firms across the city. Not only is this a fantastic way to meet legal professionals and learn about Vancouver firms, but it’s always a fun night out!

Every year, four 1L students (one per small group) are selected in September to act as ALBS Representatives. Each Representative will be tasked with liaising with 3-4 corporate law firms to organize events for their classmates to attend. These Representatives also help to keep their small group cohort in the loop about upcoming events the ALBS is promoting.

Past events include a Canucks game, a champagne tasting, a trivia night, a scavenger hunt, and many more. ALBS events are invaluable opportunities to help new law students break the ice and become more comfortable speaking to lawyers.

While the club is called the Allard Law & Business Society, you definitely don’t need a business background (or even necessarily want to pursue business law) to be a 1L Representative or to attend any of our events. For the 1L positions, we are merely seeking students who are eager and committed to serve as part of our team & have strong communication and organizational skills to successfully work alongside firms in facilitating/promoting events.

If you are interested in getting involved, there will be more information provided in September. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to email us at allardlbs@gmail.com with any questions you may have! We look forward to meeting you, and once again, welcome to Allard!
