Canadian Journal of Family Law

Hello Class of 2022,

Welcome to the Peter A. Allard School of Law! We hope you all have an amazing first year at this vibrant institution. There are many opportunities to get involved in the close-knit community at Allard Law while exploring your interests. If you have an interest in Family Law and/or editing, we hope you’ll consider joining the Canadian Journal of Family Law (CJFL) team.

The CJFL is a biannual interdisciplinary journal that publishes English and French academic articles on a broad range of Family Law issues. It is a refereed publication, with articles reviewed by an Advisory Board of legal professionals and academics. Student staff members manage, edit, and publish the journal.

1L students can get involved by volunteering to edit submissions and check citations. You will work with us to ready articles for publication. This is a great way to develop your legal research and writing skills before you write your first legal research assignment! It’s also a great way to learn about the area of Family Law.

We also like to organize and support events wherever possible. Last year, we hosted our bi-yearly Family Law Practitioner Panel and supported the Shifting Normativities: Families, Feminisms, Laws conference alongside the Centre for Feminist Legal Studies. This year, we will be working on a special issue related to the conference theme. Possible events to look forward to include: documentary lunches, guest speakers, team potlucks, and perhaps a visit to the Bloedel Conservatory!

Feel free to email us at cdnjfl@interchange.ubc.ca to learn more or to discuss getting involved. Our website, http://faculty.allard.ubc.ca/cdnjfl/index.html, has further information as well as abstracts of every article the Journal has published.

We look forward to meeting everyone in September!
