Bernardo Raneiri

Bernardo is a doctoral fellow at the at the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering – NBK,  under the supervision of Dr. Marcello Veiga. He is a Research Scholar at the Liu Institute on Global Issues, UBC and a Research Associate at the Center for Artisanal Mining Innovation, hosted by the NBK, at UBC. His dissertation focuses on the environmental health links in ASGM communities in transboundary watersheds in South America through the study of heavy metal dietary intake risks.  He holds a B.Sc. in Biology and M.Sc. in Plant Biology both by Federal Minas Gerais University, Brazil. Bernardo has over ten years of experience in technical and management consultancy for several projects in Brazil, Canada, Argentina and Mozambique for Golder Associates Ltd. He has been involved in multi-disciplinary environmental impact assessments, due diligences, impact mitigation, resource management and conservation planning. His broad academic and professional interests include aspects of ecosystems and human health, restoration ecology and impact mitigation strategies in social-ecological systems.
