Denzil is a doctoral student in the Department of History. Dedicated to historical epistemology, she is interested in the history of ways of knowing about the ocean and atmosphere. Her dissertation considers cross-cultural and epistemological enmeshment as Indigenous Pacific Islanders and Chilean, Peruvian, and American scientists worked together in the name of gathering information about the sea and air. Her project begins with an American scientific expedition through the south east Pacific and South America and hopes to create a narrative space that achieves a deeper understanding of how knowledge systems come together and transform one another. While not a direct investigation of development issues, her work examines the scientific process as it overlaps with the regional development of strategies for mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
