Jagjit Singh Sohi was born in the small village of Pharwali in Indian Punjab, where his father worked as a teacher. His father instilled in him a deep appreciation for education, which Mr. Sohi carried with him throughout his life. After completing his Master’s degree at Punjabi University Patiala, he taught Science for 18 years in India before relocating to Canada in 2009.Upon arriving in Canada, Mr. Sohi worked briefly as a security personnel before joining Khalsa School in 2012 as a Punjabi teacher, a position he continues to hold. Mr. Sohi sees teaching as his life mission, providing him with a sense of peace and purpose. He believes that it is vital to teach Punjabi to the second and third generation of children being raised in Canada, as it is essential to preserve their culture and language.
Through his dedication to teaching and preserving his heritage, Mr. Sohi exemplifies the value of education and cultural identity.
