Kuljit Kaur

Kuljit Kaur was born in the district of Ludhiana in the Indian Punjab and had her primary education at a school in her village. She did her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Punjabi University. Her father was a farmer, while her mother was a housewife, but her parents had always supported her to study further. She moved to Canada in 2010 as a skilled worker. Prior to her move, she used to work as a government official in India, but after moving to Canada she worked in a labor position for a while. After a relative introduced her to Khalsa School, she joined the school as a Punjabi teacher in 2013. Kaur feels it is really important for kids to learn Punjabi, as it will help them in the future and also feels that it is important to have children connect with religion as well. Hence, she has integrated a mix of religion and Punjabi in her classroom and syllabi, and tries to keep her class engaged with online audio and visual aids and fun activities like projects and model making.
